We have had so much to listen to or read about health. The body is like any machine or equipment you buy from the market. You are being given a long list of do’s and don’ts about that particular product otherwise known as a user manual. The body also has its own manual that we need to follow in order to have optimum health.




Below are 8 commandments that guide us from getting sick:

1. NUTRITION: We are not just eating for eating sake. We eat for good health and life. Nutrition has been a basic foundation to good health and it is due to the nutrients in food that we can do what we do.

Nutrients on the other hand are chemical components found in food.  Nutrients help us to grow and nourish. We have major food nutrients, and they are:

  • Carbohydrates: Cereals, grains, tubers etc
  • Proteins: Beans, nuts, etc
  • Vitamins: Fruits and vegetables
  • Minerals: water

You need all these classes of foods in order to stay fit and healthy. You don’t need to eat one particular food for so long just because you like it. You need to have a balanced diet so that you do not become deficient.

2. EXERCISE: Exercise has proven to be very helpful in the treatment of both Chronic and non-chronic diseases. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to many health threats such as cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, etc. Step out of your comfort zone and exercise, at least 3 times a day 30 minutes would do.   • Exercise helps to tone the body,
  • It helps in blood circulation,
  • It helps in removing toxins from the body
  • It also helps in weight loss

3. WATER: The body is composed of 75% of water. What does it tell you? The body needs more water done anything. You can go weeks without food: the body stores some of the food as glycogen in the liver so when threes a shortage, the liver with the help of a hormone called glucagon releases the stored food into the bloodstream for use but the body does not store water therefore, water is needed every day of our lives. At least 5 – 8 liters of water would do you no harm. Water keeps the body refreshed and energized. (Read also: 4 SIGNS YOU ARE NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER)

Water also helps in the relaxation of the mind and body. AVOID DRINKING WATER WITH MEALS. AT LEAST 30MINS BEFORE AND AFTER MEALS IS IDEAL.

4. SUNLIGHT: Sunlight is most crucial in the healing process. Somewhere in Africa (Ghana), when a child suffers jaundice, they lay the child in the sunlight for about 30mins – 1 hour. After some time you’ll see the skin, the sclera, and the palms have all turned from yellow to normal color.

Ideally, we are supposed to benefit from nature because it is free and thus we do not need to sit down and watch it go waste.

The major benefit of sunlight is its ability to convert calciferol into an active form of vitamin D. Vitamin D is needed for strong bones. So those who suffer from bone disorders such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, arthritis, etc should make fair use of vitamin D. 30 mins - 1 hour in the sunlight around 7am wouldn’t be a bad idea.

5. TEMPERANCE: This is where most people fall short when it comes to health. Intemperance in eating has led to many health defects. We eat whatever we want and at whatever time but I am doing you a favor by telling you today that, you are getting it wrong. Plan your meal, if it's 2 times a day (2 times: 6am-9am in the morning and 3pm -5pm in the evening), fine, and if it’s 3 times no problem. (3 times: 6am-9am in the morning, 12pm in the afternoon, and 3pm -5pm in the evening) Do not eat whatever your hands find, eat on time to avoid indigestion. Do not drink with meals as it impairs digestion. Do not take alcohol. Do not eat late: In Ecclesiastes 5: 17 “All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness”

So you see the aftermath of late eating now? Do your best to avoid eating late.

6. GOOD AIR:  We are alive today not because of any magic but by the air we breathe. Lack of air for 5 minutes will end you at the mortuary. We breathe in Oxygen (O2) and breathe out Carbon dioxide (CO2) as we all know.

When the heart pumps blood, it first goes to the lungs where exchange of gas takes place before the blood is distributed or circulated to all parts of the body. Because of this, you do not need to stay in an area where there’s air pollution else it will affect the quality of your blood since air is responsible for the purification of blood.

Open your windows at times to allow fresh air to seep in. Do not stay indoors all day, go out to get fresh air. Do not stay in that air-conditioned car or house all the time. Make way for good air, and plant more trees around your house for fresh air.



7. REST: This is what most people are struggling with. They work 24/7 with no rest. We work for money with being considerate about our health but we will use that same money to battle sickness later in life. So what at all have you gained from working tirelessly today and spending it on sicknesses tomorrow? Is it a good idea? When you wake up in the morning, assess yourself the same way you assess your vehicles before you hit the road. Some people wake up with pains and discomforts all over their body but will still go to work and overwork or for a paper. Do you cherish money more than your life? God created the world and everything in it in 6 days and rested on the 7th day: Genesis 2:2 “And on the seventh-day God ended his work which he had made, and He rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made”.  

So what are you also going to do since we are following the examples of our creator?

8. TRUST IN DIVINE POWER:  When you understand your purpose on earth and how you were created, you will leave everything to God. There are some things beyond our control and human imagination.

In the healing process and ministry, doctors are just vessels used by God to accomplish his healing process. Whenever you are battling with any disease, kindly take your supplications to God for help because before doctors could heal you, you need the intervention of God else the doctors might help you.


               

Having said this, don’t sit down and pray all day and night without visiting the hospital. Do not substitute treatment prayers alone. They are intertwined and should go hand in hand with the other.

Whilst praying, have faith that your prayers are going to be answered by the Almighty God.

Do not say to yourself: this is the disease that will send me to my grave. No, God works in mysterious ways. Even if it’s a deadly disease, pray and trust that God will do it.
