Holding urine has become common these days and I don’t know if it’s due to laziness or something.

This is done by many but bad, I often see people dancing and hitting their legs on the ground to hold it without knowing that doing that often is bad.

As liquid waste builds up in your body, you get the urge to urinate. It’s not harmful to hold it for a few minutes until you get to the bathroom, but if you wait too long, the effects can be unpleasant and even dangerous. If you find yourself doing a dance, it’s time to make a pee stop and find a place to do it.


Effects Of Holding Urine Too Long


1. Weakens Bladder Muscles

Holding your urine for too long can weaken the bladder muscles over time. This can lead to problems such as incontinence and not being able to fully empty your bladder.

2. Causes Urinary Tract Infections

Holding your urine for extremely long periods of time can also cause urinary tract infections due to bacteria build-up. In addition, it can increase your risk of kidney disease and in rare cases even risk your bladder bursting, a condition that can be deadly.

3. Your bladder would stretch

If holding your pee becomes habit, after a while, your bladder can become stretched which might make it impossible for the bladder to contract and release pee normally.

4. Pain

If you constantly hold your pee for too long, you might start feeling pains in your lower abdomen.

How Long Is Too Long To Hold Your Pee?

When you hold your pee for 10 hours or more, you may develop urinary retention, meaning the muscles in your bladder can't relax and let you relieve yourself, even when you want to. In very rare cases, holding your pee can cause your bladder to burst.(1)

Do not keep urine for so long, you might end up causing more harm than good to yourself.
